I think like most guys my age I’m fairly efficient at convincing myself I’m still a young fella. Or at least in my mid 20’s and I’ll never get old. Maybe a part of why I love training so much is that it helps me do this on a level.
However there are times something will happen to remind me I’m a bit past the 20’s mark. Yesterday was one occasion.
I had to get some corns removed.
I couldn’t just sit there and let the Chiropodist work away – I wrecked his head with questions like;
– Why are they there?
– How can I keep them away?
The main cause for getting them is friction on your foot, apparently footware being slightly too big or small is common. Over time this friction causes the skin to become a corn.
Lovely.
Also sneaky – because I found you only realise what’s happening when the corn is already there and causing pain.
Question for you is;
– What’s your potential badly fitting footware when it comes to your health?
Maybe you’re not exercising enough. Or you are but you’re not taking the right lifestyle decisions outside the gym. Or you’re allowing a couple of glasses of wine during the week to stave off lockdown boredom develop into a couple of bottles during the week.
Whatever it is, the best time to take control of them is now. I only had to go and get some skin scrapped off my foot but for some people, consistently ignoring their health habits can lead to more troublesome results such as heart issues, complete lack of confidence, zero energy, diabetes or for guys waking up one morning and not being able to see your best friend. And more.
Results which seemingly happen overnight. But really don’t.
The good news is that as much as you can build negative friction, you can also build up your healthy habits and over time they will leave you feeling fitter, stronger, healthier, more energetic.
Even feeling younger.
So if you’re cutting corners with your exercise, letting your nutrition slip and aren’t really taking any notice of your lifestyle and the impact it can have, now’s a good time to think about the outcomes you want. Then start adding in the habits that will help you get them.
While scraping out the ones that won’t.
