During our online Semi Private session this morning one of the lads mentioned a tv show about people holidaying in Ireland before foreign trips really became a thing.
Growing up we came to Dublin a lot and I loved it. Everything from the Wax Museum to Croke Park was exciting for me.
I remember the first time I got the bus to Dublin (with a friend we were meeting his dad down here for a match in Croke Park). We got off at Bus Aras and the 12 year old me was instantly struck by the size of the building. I was so taken by a bus stop being that big and so many stories high.
As far as I know it is 5/6 stories high.
I read during the week that the average person can scroll through upto 300 feet of Social Content every day. That’s about 28 stories or 6 Bus Aras’s. Even if the 300 feet is an exaggeration, other reports I’ve read say people spend around 2 hours 57 minutes a day on social media.
Either way it’s a hell of a lot of thumb work.
This definitely isn’t a post to say close all of your social media accounts. But think that if so many of us can do something like scroll 300 foot a day without thinking, what are you doing with regard to your health and fitness – and not even realising it. Below are some things that are useful to observe and keep on top of:
- Movement: With being home at the moment, it’s very easy to neglect things like your exercise and regular movement. Are you succumbing to the lethargy that makes you head for the couch after work, instead of doing an online session? Are you scrolling through your phone on your lunch break instead of getting out for a 10 minute walk at least?
There are plenty of ways to track your daily movement; our advice is to be aware of yours. - Breath: Every system in the body relies on oxygen and it can help with everything from pain perception to stress management.
I’ve read that the ideal number of breath per minute for an adult is 6 to 8 but the average is in the region of 12 to 14.
How often, particularly during times of stress, have you checked in with your breathing? How often when you’re out for a walk do you make yourself aware to breath in deep breaths through your nose and out through your mouth? - Physical Consumption: If you were asked about what you ate yesterday, how aware would you be of it? How often do you reach for foods without any thought as to whether they are helping bring you closer to or further away from your health goals? How much time do you invest into prepping your nutrition?
- Mental Consumption: “Why Zebras don’t get ulcers” is a brilliant book about chronic stress and how bad it can be for your health. Chronic stress can come from so many different areas but what we consume mentally every day definitely plays a part. So do you always look for bad news stories or go down social media black holes of arguments which give you zero benefit? This is potentially another area useful to track for a lot of people and make conscious decisions on as the benefits of even turning the dial slightly to more uplifting/useful content are huge.
Again we aren’t saying become robotic about everything you do each day. But if you are letting your fitness slide and wondering why you’re feeling a bit less energetic/un motivated etc, becoming slightly more conscious around your daily habits is a good idea.
And the pay – off could be huge…
If you’re looking for somewhere you can train in an (we like to think!) uplifting environment, either online or in person when it’s possible to again, send us a message and we will be in contact to outline our various programs and how they can work for you…
