I recently had a discussion with someone about what the age in life is best for turning from being someone whose life is dictated by your parents, to where you need to take responsibility yourself.
We kinda figured 18 is really a reasonable cut off point to start taking control of your choices and ownership of the results that they bring about.
This is the case with getting into shape as much as anything else.
Some people will say they can’t achieve it because of genetics but the environment you put your genetics into is just as/even more important than your genetics themselves.
Others will say it’s the fact that they don’t have enough time. But everyone has the same time in their days, and I’ve seen extremely busy clients with hectic family and professional lives develop and maintain really impressive levels of health and fitness.
Or the reason given might be “I’ve tried everything but nothing works”. The question here would be have you GENUINELY tried it all for a consistent period?
Or have you give it your all for about 3 days or even stretched it from a Monday to a Friday one week but then the weekend hit and you decided that “this isn’t worth the effort anyway”.
And when you say everything has this included a structured plan, incorporating:- Workouts designed to help you hit your goals.- Proper recovery including sleep and stress management techniques- Effective nutrition- Patience and consistency.
The list could go on.But ultimately if you’re not where you’d like to be with your health and fitness and are over 18 years old, probably the best thing you could do for yourself is decide to take responsibility to get yourself into the best shape you can.
And be consistent about doing everything you can to get yourself there…
