Something happened in the gym recently that made a couple of us wonder if there is any such thing as a coincidence. We didn’t waste much time trying to figure it out and got back to work.

I also recently read (in The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter) that a study found that the harmful effects of not working out were worse than the actual effects of smoking.

Does that mean if you’re a smoker, you shouldn’t bother quitting and just workout to offset the damage done?

Definitely not.

But it again shows that we have potentially far more control over our health than we like to think.

Also, the finding is not working out being worse than smoking is no coincidence when you consider some of the following:

– Most fit people face a 45% lower risk of dying of cancer according to a study in the annals of oncology.
– A 2013 review in the Bone and Mineral Journal found that resistance exercise reduces the risk of osteoporosis by upto 40% in postmenopausal women.
– In 2018 the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that regular exercise lowers the risk of dementia by 30 to 40%
– A 2018 study in The Lancet found that people who exercise regularly report feeling 43% fewer poor mental health days than those who don’t.

We could keep going and going with why you should be working out regularly.

Ultimately if you want to give yourself a really awesome present this festive season, then start working out – in some shape or form.

Do this and it’ll be no coincidence if you feel yourself feeling fitter, healthier and more energetic in 2025 and beyond…
