“I can’t tell you how many women come upto me and say something like “I’ve been cutting the feet out of my pantyhose for years, why didn’t I end up being the Spanx girl. – Sarah Blakely

The reason is that a good idea is just the starting point.”Chip and Dan Heath on Sarah Blakelys journey becoming the youngest ever female self made billionaire in “The Power of Moments”

They explain the factors in Blakely becoming a success are her:

– Persistence

– Lack of fear around failure.

These are characteristics you need for your health journey.

You need persistence because you’ll face situations where you’re not getting the results you want or life is getting in your way, not enabling you to train as consistently as you like.

The right level of persistence will allow you to overcome sticking points, trust the process and continue to be consistent.

Absence of fear around failure might sound dramatic when it comes to progressing. However it’s surprising how many people sell themselves out of the process of getting fit. Often underlying fear causes this.

Fear of not being able to stick the process, telling people that you’re training but not getting results and fear of exposing yourself to a workout environment.

One thing you can do is develop a strong “Why?”. A well thought out reason for the result you’re looking for. When creating your why, look at your life and what better energy, strength and confidence will bring to it.

Finding the right training environment is key. That could be at home/the local park/a gym. Find one you’ll enjoy working in and you’ll be able to consistently get to.

Once you start seeing progress you develop persistence around your program. So track results and celebrate wins. Finally trusting the process is vital. Remember every workout, glass of water and vegetable etc is improving your health and when done consistently will make a huge difference to your quality of life to help you keep focused.

While developing persistence around your fitness regime might not make you a billionaire, it’s going to give you something that’s priceless.

Better health, energy and confidence (wearing a pair of Spandex or not!).
