I used to be someone who always found it hard not to be on the go all the time.
However over the last 6 months or so it’s really dawned on me just how much of a false economy that is.
Coming home after a few days away with my brothers, I couldn’t wait to get back into the gym and at things again.
Refreshed.
This doesn’t just apply to work life, proper recovery is a very important part of an effective training regime.
Because you really can only train as hard as you can recover.
Making sure you’re recovering properly doesn’t have to always mean a holiday either.
Things you can/should do when it comes to your recovery include:
– Taking the right rest between your working sets. Not slacking and looking at your phone for ages, but making sure you’re taking enough rest so that the work you do is the right quality.
– Setting up your program so that you aren’t constantly hitting the same body parts (a lot of workouts can end up being very quad dominant).
– Balancing out your program so that you’re not always attempting HIT sessions.
– Utilising rest days and not trying to smash the gym 7 days a week.
– Ensuring things like your sleep and other recovery methods are properly dialled in.
– Consider adding some stretching/mobility and active recovery days to your program.
Ultimately while you need to put the work in to get the results you’re looking for, it needs to be balanced with the right recovery.
Doing this will mean you’ll enjoy the process a lot more.
And your results will be longer term…
