While gyms are still locked down in Ireland, our advice is still very much to focus on what you can control as opposed to what you can’t (as much as we wish they were open right now!).
Now isn’t the time to add to the stress of life by making things ultra complicated so here’s 3 tips we feel you should follow, along with why and how…
1. MOVE: Mentally you’ll feel much better by even getting outside for some fresh air and going for a walk. It has been shown to have beneficial impacts on your immune system such as potentially helping flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. Adding some movement into your day right now can be as simple as making sure you hit 8,000 to 10,000 steps to doing a quick workout of 50 squats, 50 press ups and 50 Y/Ws. Or you could get in touch with us about our zoom classes.
2. SLEEP: Studies have shown people who are sleep deprived are upto 3 times more likely to succumb to the common cold and have a decreased response to infections. We are all aware of the importance of our immune systems right now. Also good sleep helps improve everything from our immune system to ability to recover and adapt to training, memory performance and motivation levels. One of the most effective things you can do to help your sleep is to develop a consistent bedtime routine, which involves cutting your time on a phone/laptop before bed, going to sleep at a consistent time every night and ensuring your bedroom is tidy and completely dark as you sleep.
3. DO A KITCHEN CLEAR OUT: Having a kitchen clear out will help you improve your nutritional habits greatly. Once there are less temptations in the kitchen (especially if working from home), you’ll be less far likely to binge on less than optimal foods which won’t help improve your body composition, your mood or energy levels. And you’ll be far more likely to eat wholesome real foods that will have a positive effect on your health and well-being…All you’ve got to do now is make a decision to get fitter and healthier during lockdown and take small action steps towards making it happen every day now…
